A point to add from all these ideas I’ve been searching to live frugally, it’s hard. It takes willpower around my age, I’m sure folks around my age feel the same way. I think the reason why college students are in so much debt beyond their student loans is that they don’t know where the money goes. And also a social life is expensive and along with it is peer pressure.
for me, I try to be conservative about my social life and my money. I claim myself to be “stingy” but it’s kind of hard being the science major of the group of friends and “young one” who’s still going to school–most of them graduated. With the science majors I know, they do say they didn’t have fun in college or that they’re always studying. Well the problem with me is that I’m kind of out of control that I’m not the one controlling me. Like when I do say “no” first i really do mean ‘no” and it’s usually I have a reason. If the excuse is “studying” I get “nerd” because I’ve got five days until the exam or I go “can’t drink too much because I have work the following morning” the answer back “come on you’ll be fine the following morning.” Trust me, I’m not as boring as I seem. I think I disappointed my fans out there because they do know me as the “up for anything” person but hey, I really have decided to put the reins on my personality. I mean, not to put down humanities, English, and those types of majors, being a science major is hard. In fact they admitted it too but it’s just saying “oh it’s hard because they study so much” isn’t enough, that’s so passive for have never taken a science class their whole life. Being a science major or engineering major or math major is like learning a new language. And when learning a new language it takes dedication because it’s pretty dumb to walk around not be able to articulate some terms related to your major. Like during my junior year my grades haven’t been the greatest because of commuting 4 hours a day and not being able to have time to dedicated to my school, that was when I decided to move closer to the school because I wanted to improve in school. Just when I move here, I feel i’m struggling to find time to study. I swear being a adult and dealing with peer pressure is a lot harder than it was during high school. Lately I’ve been doing my best to not compromise because I know in the long run, it would do more help than make me a loser. I mean if people really like me, they’ll understand why. I mean sure they’ll think “what a nerd, she’s studying” or “she’s boring because she’s not drinking too much” but if they understand, they’ll get over it. But if not, then I know I should get over them.
